This is some starter info on the .pat format. (patchkit.arj, july 1 1993)

patch.txt   - explains the organisation
patch.h     - is a commented header file with structures
note.h      - is a note table
tutor1.txt  - creation of a melodic patch
swirlb4.aif - wavesample for tutor1
swirl.pat   - the patch file you should end up with at the end of tutor1
pad_c7.aif  - another wavesample to exercise yourself
read.me     - this file
